At ChromaSonic_Lab, we dismantle the familiar. We break apart the fixed relationship between color and image, dissolving the boundaries of perception, and reconstructing them in sound. In this space, colors do not merely exist—they resonate, vibrate, and unfold across time.

This project is born from a desire to see the world through sound, to translate the essence of visual experience into a form that can be felt beyond sight. By weaving together color psychology, semiotics, and digital soundscapes, we create an immersive space where images are no longer just seen, but heard, sensed, and reimagined.

Rooted in Lancaster University’s Sociology Department – Media and Cultural Studies. ChromaSonic_Lab is an experiment in color psychology, semiotics, deconstructionism, and posthumanism—a reimagining of how we perceive and interpret the world. Here, color is no longer bound by the image, nor vision by the eye; instead, we dissolve these conventions, allowing sound to become the medium through which color is felt.

Guided by semiotics, we decode color as a signifier beyond its visual presence. Through deconstructionism, we dismantle the traditional hierarchy of sensory perception, questioning why we must see color rather than hear it. Influenced by posthumanism, we embrace a form of expression where creativity is no longer human-centric but shaped by algorithms, data, and technology. In this space, color breathes, unfolds in time, and resonates through sound.

What if blue was not something to be seen but something to be heard? What if red did not exist in space, but in rhythm? Can we listen to a memory, rather than recall it in silence? ChromaSonic_Lab does not provide answers—it invites you to experience a world where color and sound merge into something entirely new.

How We Make It

IMG_4400 2.JPG
We turn photos into music using a custom algorithm that connects color with sound. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Segment the Image
Step 2: Extract Dominant Colors
Step 3: Map Color to Sound
Step 4: Build the Melody
Step 5: Add Local Emotion & Style
